We would like to thank all of those who came and helped us celebrate the occasion. We would especially like to thank those who donated money, time and resources to make the event special. Coming Home to WorkSeptember 13th, 2011The Reentry Program is working with the Charlottesville City Department of Human Services on a new work program initiative. This program, “Coming Home to Work” is targeted at individuals without steady work history needing assistance gaining full time employment. Participants will work on tasks provided through the City while receiving intensive case management from OAR staff. The program should kick off on September 27, 2011. Bridging the Gap Peer SupportAugust 15th, 2011Peer support during the reentry process can play a vital role in reducing barriers. Currently, a peer support group, Bridging the Gap-Final Destination”, is starting in Charlottesville. The next meeting will be on August 24th at 5pm in the City Hall basement conference room. Check it out. Drug Court GraduationAugust 15th, 2011On August 25, 2011, the Charlottesville/Albemarle Drug Court is celebrating the graduatuion of several participants. Please join the team in celebration at the Charlottesville Circuit Court aT 8:30 AM. Receptionist/Administrative AssistantAugust 2nd, 2011OAR, a nonprofit community corrections agency, seeks a part-time (20 hour) receptionist/administrative assistant to work the afternoons (mon-fri). The duties will include telephone reception, client reception, client scheduling and other general clerical type functions. A successful candidate has prior experience in similar tasks, thorough knowledge and capability with Microsoft Office software, the ability to write and speak clearly, ability to multitask in a fast paced environment, a positive attitude and the ability to work successfully with a diverse population. A high school diploma is required and advance degree is preferred. A criminal background check will be conducted. Please submit resume and cover letter by August 12, 2010 Community Supervision WeekJuly 20th, 2011The week of July 17-23, 2011, the nation pauses to acknowledge the work of community corrections staff to improve public safety by affecting change in the lives of those involved with criminal justice system in our community. OAR would like to acknowledge the work of our probation, pretrial, reentry, drug court and restorative justice staff. Without their commitment and perserverance, the OAR Program would not be agent of change that we hope to be. The work of our staff positively impacts the lives of over 5000 people annually in Central Virginia. Without their work, our community and the lives of those we work with would not be as successful. A sincere thanks goes out to all of our staff and also to all those across the nation who work so hard to change lives through community supervision. Evidence Based Decision MakingJune 21st, 2011Charlottesville and Albemarle were one of 7 site chosen across the United States to participate in an Evidence Based Decision Making Process. This involves bringing policy team members to the table to address more effective and efficient use of resources to reduce the cost of justice systems and the reduce the re-arrest rate among offenders during and after supervision. The initiative is called One Less: A Strategy for Safer Communities: One less offender, one less crime , one less victim. Agency heads have been meeting with a consultant for over 9 months preparing for implementation of new policies and initiatives to address the costs and recidivism rates. Our vision is: Working together for a safer community one person at a time.” |
