OAR/JACC trains all case management staff on the use of motivational interviewing and effective communication techniques. Additionally, as part of a continuous quality improvement plan, all case management staff participate in regular booster session and skills testing. These strategies have been proven to enhance motivation to change. The use of motivational interviewing has been shown to have positive outcomes with people going through a behavioral change process by lowering resistance, developing a trusting rapport, and building positive relationships. All linked to reducing recidivism.
