OAR REENTRY SERVICES PROGRAM
Our Reentry Services Program is sourced in the mission of OAR where every client has the opportunity for success. We provide Pre and Post Release services designed to support and encourage inmates and ex-offenders to make a positive transition from incarceration back to the community.
Our Pre-release services provide 6 weeks of classes in Thinking for a Change, employability, parenting, wellness and emotional literacy for men and women in the Reentry Programs at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail (ACRJ). We also offer Transitional planning to individuals 30 to 45 days from release through collaboration with ACRJ, OAR and community agencies and organizations concerned with assisting inmates in a smooth transition home. Post-release services offer assistance to ex-offenders to overcome the many barriers they face once they return to the community. We offer referrals for emergency assistance with food, clothing, and housing as well as assistance in obtaining identification. Our employment specialist works with clients to prepare for employment and to be successful in the world of work. We offer assistance with applications, resumes, transportation during the job search and for the first few weeks after finding employment. Once someone finds a job, we can assist with work boots, uniforms and some tools as required by the employer. The employment specialist works to match motivated clients with employers willing to hire ex-offenders and continues to follow-up as a job coach as needed. Reentry Services also includes a mentoring component for inmates at ACRJ and family mentors to assist families in handling the reunification and return to community life. We welcome anyone interested in becoming a mentor to contact Reentry Services for information about our mentorship program. |
