Court-supervised treatment recovery support

Established in 2022, the mission of the Orange Madison Recovery Court is to provide a proven and cost-effective alternative to incarceration while promoting positive change and empowering people.  This is accomplished by addressing the root causes of substance use disorder that drives criminal behavior by providing drug treatment and court supervised intervention.  By promoting this mission, we can create lasting solutions, a stronger community, and increase public safety.

The Orange Madison Recovery Court is a minimum of 14 months long and is comprised of five phases which participants move through based on progress towards goals and engagement in the program.  The Recovery Court has a pre-adjudication structure. A participant seeking dismissal or reduction of charges through successful completion of the recovery court program will stipulate the sufficiency of the Commonwealth’s evidence and a judge will find that sufficient evidence exists to convict the participant of the charge(s) but will defer a finding of guilt.  The potential resolution, once approved for the program, will be memorialized in a written plea agreement that the judge must accept prior to the participant’s entry into the drug treatment court.

The Recovery Court is designed to serve individuals with felony charges who are at high risk to recidivate, present a high need of services and have a moderate to severe substance use disorder.  The program follows the Key Components of Recovery Court and the Adult Recovery Court Best Practice Standards.
